site update

I just moved this site to a new server and lost my comments in the process. They were basically “this is okay but there’s not enough detail, especially on the right hand technique and camera work.” Stay tuned as I’ll be updating these and adding more in the next few days.

Muskrat by Doc Watson

I did this tutorial for my brother after I played it at a fishing trip. The song is Muskrat, and this is the little lead run. Like a lot of bluegrass it’s done from a “G” shape, in this case, capoed to B flat. The focus goes in and out a little but it should be viewable.

Play Folsom Prison Blues, (sort of)

My friend Doug is learning the guitar and has run into a common problem:even once you know the chords, how do you strum? After you’ve been playing awhile it’s easy to forget this basic element. It’s easy to find the chords to lots of songs on the internet, but the strumming pattern is something that takes a lot of practice. Here is one common strumming pattern you will hear as you listen to your favorite songs. The alternating bass pick/strum pattern.
